The City of Naples is moving forward with phase 2 of the planned replacement of the aging seawall along Venetian Bay on Gulf Shore Boulevard North—a vital project to safeguard our neighborhood for generations.
This project has deep roots: it all began on May 8, 2018, when GSAC representatives attended a Naples City Council meeting and formally requested that the City repair or replace the seawall, which had been damaged during Hurricane Irma.
Since then, the seawall—an essential part of Park Shore’s charm—has been deteriorating due to age, tidal forces, and storm impacts. After further damage from Hurricane Irma and ongoing decline, the City determined that full replacement—built to modern standards—was the best solution.
Why This Matters
The seawall is a critical barrier protecting Gulf Shore Boulevard North, nearby homes, and the entire community from erosion, storm surge, and tidal flooding. With rising sea levels and more intense storms, modernizing this barrier is a proactive investment in long-term safety.
Project Scope & Funding
This phase will replace about 1,510 linear feet of seawall beginning at the southern property line of the Village Shops and extending approximately 1510 linear feet to the south. The City engaged Stantec Consulting Services for design and permitting. As you recall, phase 1 was completed two years ago, that section begins at 4500 GSBN and extends about 700 linear feet to the north.
A key milestone: the City recently secured a $3.75 million grant from the state, funding a substantial portion of the project. Alongside City funds and local support, this grant ensures a major financial boost.
Estimated Timelines
- Engineering & Permitting: Already underway
- Bid & Contractor Selection: Spring 2026
- Construction Start: Fall 2026
- Construction Duration: 10-12 months
- Completion: Fall 2027
What Residents Can Expect
The City will carefully coordinate the construction phases to minimize disruption. There may be temporary lane adjustments or access changes, but the City will keep us informed every step of the way.
Not only will the Seawall be replaced, so too will the sidewalk, curbing, parking lot, and landscaping, as was done in the recently completed phase 1.
As Naples continues to grow, this seawall replacement stands as a pivotal investment in protecting our homes, roads, and waterfront lifestyle.
