Good afternoon:

This afternoon, after yet another very long public hearing, the Collier County Board of
Commissioners reversed its decision of a week ago and voted (3-2, with Commissioner Penny
Taylor changing her vote) to issue an emergency order requiring the use of face masks in
interior locations (but not, as I understand it, in public places where social distancing would
continue to be the norm). There are no criminal penalties; the County’s code enforcement staff
will administer it. The order will be in effect through September 3.

The emergency order does not apply within the City of Naples but is worded so that the City
could opt-in to it. I would anticipate that the Naples City Council will, within the next several
days, convene an emergency meeting to discuss and determine whether to opt-in.
